Mitsubishi will advance its Mitsubishi In-wheel motor Electric Vehicle (MIEV) technology with the introduction of a new concept at the Detroit Auto Show this January. We've seen only a sketch of the Concept-CT MIEV, but it's a typically futuristic and sporty-looking concept car. Mitsubishi is using a Colt electric vehicle for practical tests of the MIEV system, an innovative technology that puts the electric motors within the wheel. The in-wheel arrangement offers more direct power delivery and also can be used for regenerative braking. Mitsubishi says it's working on a 50-kilowatt version for a high-performance all-wheel-drive car. The four motors would total 200 kilowatts, which would provide insane torque.
