Panasonic announces new high-zoom camera

Posted by Will Greenwald
Panasonic just announced the Lumix DMC-FZ7, a 6-megapixel camera with a 12X zoom lens. The FZ7 uses both Panasonic's Mega optical image stabilization and an antiblur High Sensitivity mode that boosts light sensitivity as high as ISO 1,600. These two features work together to prevent shots from being blurry. Of course, we'll have to see the shots ourselves before we can really say if these features produce good results--especially at the high ISO settings. The FZ7 also incorporates a variety of shooting modes for high-speed shooting, including a mode that can take three shots per second indefinitely. The FZ7 will start shipping in March and will retail for about $400.

Great Camera

This is my 4th digital camera and nothing even comes close.

I have both Nikon 35mm and Minolta Maxxum 35mm. This is as close to excellent 35mm as I have seen. Camera has Leica lens, none better.

Specific Release Date?

Hoping to be able to take a FZ7 on vacation starting Mar. 27 - any specifics available on a release date? Does Panasonic usually hit their dates, or do they get delayed?

Looks like a Deal

The new camera sounds like a deal which will put an end to Cannon S2 IS.The market of costly Canon S2 IS will be down when the panasonic launces the new camera with in a pric eof 350-400$.Good for both Cannon lovers as well as Panasonic lovers as price of Cannon will be coming down.
