Intel has settled on a name for its forthcoming 65nm dual-core CPUs. Both the desktop chips, developed under the name Conroe, and the laptop chips, developed under the name Merom, will be called Core 2 Duo. Though they share a handle, the two families of chips are different; the model numbering scheme for each will almost certainly help you keep the mobile parts separate from their sedentary siblings. Also, the supercharged version of the desktop processors will carry the name Core 2 Extreme. The desktop chips are expected to launch in July followed by the laptop chips in August.
