Why? Why must you tease, Sony Ericsson? On Wednesday, the cell phone manufacturer announced an official launch date for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, but only for certain markets. Naturally, North America is not one of the lucky ones. No, only the United Kingdom, Germany, and Sweden will be able to get their hands on the hot Xperia X1 come September 30, while the rest of us admire from afar and continue to wait it out.

Sony Ericsson did say that the Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone will make its way to other markets across Europe, Asia, and Latin America throughout Q4. You can check out a full list of countries on Sony Ericsson's press site. As for North America, China, and Russia, well, all the company could reveal was that the launch dates will be announced by local markets in the "coming months." Lovely; how vague. I suppose the one bright side is that we know the product is in final form and ready to ship. I know, little consolation but it's something, right?

As part of CTIA Fall 2008, Sony Ericsson also hosted a breakfast/panel discussion Wednesday morning here in San Francisco to discuss the SDK for the Xperia X1, as well as try to explain how the X1 will rise above the competition. Check back soon and I'll have more details about what was discussed at the session.

Why do we, as one of the largest consumers in the world, always get the short end of the stick when it comes to technology? I have been looking forward to this phone since February and now I am going to have to wait even longer. I am sure they will sell a lot more units in North America in one week than they will in a month in those countries.

I've saved every cent I could all summer to get this phone when it comes out. I knew it would be released in Eurpoe first, the U.S. always gets the good stuff last. No matter, I'll just get the Euro (UK)version the phone is quad-band so it shouldn't be a problem. Plus, my current K790 is the international version (K790i) and is the exact same as the US version (K790a), if not better.

Actually, I'm not surprised, I rarely see Ericsson cell phone users in the US. Most people have blackberry's or other like phones. However, when ever I travel abroad, both South America and Asia, almost everyone has Sony Ericsson phones. Of course, if you are reading this, you probably are more interested in a Sony Ericsson and agree they are better devices than the more popular brands, so yes, it's a bummer we have to wait and don't get the first release, but, maybe they'll flush out any bugs in these other markets, and we'll get version 2 patched and ready to go.

Does Anybody REALLy know WHY we in the USA Always get the newest Technology Soooo Far After Europe and the other side of the World because I would LOVE to know why it takes so long to Launch a US version. I understand there should be a little time between their release and ours because alot of those companies are based over there but COME ON!!!! We ENd up waiting an ENTIRE YEAR OR MORE MOST of the TIME!!!

I STILL Don't Understand....... *sigh*

The reason why us, north americans get the latest later is because we are the most complicated market of all. The device needs to pass rigorous if not stupid test that our stupid goverment legislated in order to restrict the market from small companies. In that spirit, big companies still need to clense all the inquiries of the device that dont comply with the FCC and make it to their liking.
Of course in these documents we the people are not even mentioned.
Thats because business is made in casual clothes and since to them, we are animals, we dont count.
Well, my fellow americans, thats what it is. Very sad but very true.
If you want freedom go to canada or something, America is like a blog, and you all know how that gets.

I'm so excited about this mobile, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas.

I've already joined http://www.xperiax1.net and a few other fan sites and the phones not even been released. Oh dear.

This is going to be a massive hit and hopefully redefine WM, giving competition to the iPhone.

Bottomline, the XPERIA X1 is being positioned -- not just as a consumer or a productivity device, but one that offers you the best of both worlds -- a "wicked" entertainment appliance, yet loaded with productivity features that the most fastidious mobile professional could use very effectively in an enterprise context. There's already a fans website for the phone http://www.Xperia-X1.org LOL
