Along with a number of other handset announcements, Sprint and Research in Motion introduced the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8350i at CTIA Fall 2008 on Wednesday. This should be particularly sweet news for Nextel Direct Connect users, who haven't seen a new BlackBerry model since the RIM BlackBerry 7100i, which was introduced back in 2006.

There's plenty more good news. In addition to supporting the iDEN network for use with Direct Connect and Group Connect push-to-talk services, the BlackBerry Curve 8350i also features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, and GPS. The smartphone will run the latest BlackBerry OS 4.6 and features DataViz Documents to Go, an improved media player, a 2-megapixel camera with video capabilities, and a microSD expansion slot.

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8350i is slightly bigger than the other Curve models. You do get a full QWERTY keyboard, a 65,000-color, 320x240 pixel resolution display, and a 1,400mAh lithium-ion battery, which is the largest capacity cell that RIM offers to date.

Neither Sprint nor RIM revealed pricing or an exact release date, but the Curve 8350i is expected to be available by the end of the year.

On Sale Now: $149.99 - $599.99

Will this be included with the Sprint/Nextel Hybrid family. Nextel wireless coverage would take away the possibilities of this being a geat phone for me. Also, what about EV-DO.

That's also my question. I've been dreaming for something like this.

I am very happy to see this New Nextel Push to Talk Blackberry. I also disagree with previous posts. I have never had better coverage than today with my Nextel iDen phone. I know that this phone is for iDen only, and not Hybrid or cdma. I really thnk Sprint Nextel has fixed their iDen coverage to now it is better than it has ever been. Bad coverage comments I think are history. Those days are gone. I can't wait to get my Nextel Blackberry!

But for those like me that have been stuck with the 7100i for 3 years, this is fantastic news.

I have also been waiting for a new Nextel Blackberry. The article has an incorrect fact, the 7100i was introduced in 2005. I got my 7100i in November 2005, and I have NEVER kept a phone this long, and certainly would not have if I had any other alternative. It's not that I dislike the 7100i, but it is frustrating to see other carriers roll out newer and newer devices while I am forced to keep the same phone if I want a Blackberry with the PTT feature.

I had the 8520 blackberry, the 7100i and know I have the palm treo. I can not wait till this comes out I miss my direct connect. out of the 3 phones I loved my 8520 I never had a problem with it at all. My husband thought it was a good idea to get the 7100i and I had that phone for about 2 weeks and went to get the treo palm. The treo freezes alot and when I talk on the phone my hair ends the calls I never thought the screen would be so sensitive. The coverage sucks I can be in my house and the phone goes out of coverage, when outside my house it wouks fine. My husband has a nextel phone and the coverage woks great. With all that in a nut shell I can not wait to get this phone. I have be in touch with sprint reps and the launch date that he told me is Dec. 2 it may change but thats what I heard so far. Has anyone heard different?

Pros:
Very nice high quality design. Crisp, sharp, and bright screen. Very nice icons and layout. Great call quality and clearity.

Cons:
Wi-fi did not work in many areas. Even when it did, the phone would not play streaming videos. Sprint nor Blackberry could help me get the internet feature working, so my phone would only go to Wi-fi, with no other browser available. This phone does not come with Sprint TV or the Music Store, so you cannot get the free NFL Mobile Live. It attracts lots of smuges and finger prints on the screen and on the back of the phone.

Summary:
In all, they did a great job as far as giving the phone a high quality design. They should have made this phone Sprint TV enabled and gave it access to the Music Store as well like they did for the Renegade by Motorola. Like I said, you cannot get the free NFL Live access either. What a bomber!!!
