Update: The Palm announcement pertains to the Pre SDK--no additional details on pricing or availability.

You got to love when Palm preannounces an announcement for its Pre smartphone.

That's exactly what it's doing with a tantalizing teaser on the official Palm blog. And it claims no April foolery.

The post states: "We thought about running a harmless little April Fools' Day prank on the blog today...but instead, we thought we'd give you a heads-up (for reals) to check back later today (or follow palm_inc on Twitter) for an update direct from the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco."

Everybody, of course, is hoping for pricing or a release date for the much-anticipated Pre, a Sprint exclusive. But there's also a high probability that Palm will simply announce the free, general release of the Mojo SDK.

Naturally, we'll bring you the news, large or small, whenever Palm does provide details.

I think Palm will be releasing the SDK today. If anything, Sprint would be the ones to reveal the price and release date so that would take place at CTIA.... if it was going to happen (but I don't think it will).

the biggest legitimate phone story is Sprint Nextel(S Quote - Cramer on S - Stock Picks). The troubled operator will show the world its not-so-secret upgrade for phones running the Palm OS: the Pre.
Recent examples of Sprint?s work for businesses and government include a recent deal to power Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) vehicles? in-dashboard PCs with Internet connectivity through the Sprint network, providing devices and priority services to public safety officials during the presidential inauguration, and offering integrated wireless and wireline services for Safelite AutoGlass.

Notice big business/Govt. uses Sprint or Verizon ? Both CDMA. ATT is for wanabees.

Thank God the govt uses Sprint! As a Fed employee I get 15% off my monthly recurring cellphone charges. FYI, my work Blackberry is AT&T so yes the govt. also has AT&T contracts.

I'm so sick of waiting. Sprint is going to lose customers (and potential customers) if we don't get a solid answer soon on release date and price. Quit JERKING US AROUND SPRINT!!
