HTC Touch Dual coming to U.S.

HTC Touch Dual
(Credit: HTC)Good news, good news! At CTIA, smartphone manufacturer HTC announced that it will offer the HTC Touch Dual through Best Buy stores this quarter. And the news gets even better, as the unlocked quad-band smartphone will ship with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition and wait for it...it will include support for U.S. 3G bands.
Already available in Europe and Asia (of course), the HTC Touch Dual is the next-generation of the HTC Touch, and alleviates some of the text entry pains of the original Touch by providing a slide-out SureType-like keypad. You'll also still get the TouchFLO interface as well as Bluetooth 2.0 and a 2-megapixel camera. HTC said final pricing has not been set.

Features include the following:
TouchFLO?, a touch-screen technology that allows finger-touch scrolling, panning and photo zooming
Slide-out 20-key keyboard for quick dialing, text messages and e-mail
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
Microsoft Office Mobile for working on documents and getting your Outlook e-mail
Live HTC Home? featuring time and weather display, quick launcher, and one-touch ring-tone settings
2 megapixel camera for shooting photos/videos and a second camera for video calls
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) and HSDPA (850/1900Mhz) connectivity
This is the thing with HTC; they always do this - so close, but no cigar.
The only thing that prevents me from purchasing the Touch Dual is the lack of built-in GPS.
That's precisely my point - it should be a Touch version of the Tilt. As far as one-handed use is concerned - it's already set up for it, without the sliding keypad. The whole point of putting in a slider is to expand its usability, to accommodate those who miss the tactile feedback - and this doesn't do it. If you're going to put in a slider - put in a real one, not this "Jr." version.
And it's too wide for this kind of slider, anyway.
