Hooray! Voice memos finally work on the iPod Touch 2G.

What a difference a month makes. In September, we couldn't find a single voice-recording app for the iPhone that would work with the headset input included on the second-generation iPod Touch. I took a look around the iTunes App Store today and found that seven of of the 13-plus iPhone voice-memo apps now list themselves as compatible with the second-generation iPod Touch. Here's the list, so far:

If you find additional voice-memo apps for the iPod Touch 2G, please add them in this post's comments section.

On a side note, we're happy to report that you don't need to use an Apple-branded headset to enable the iPod Touch 2G's voice-memo capability (same goes for the new Nano and Classic). We used an Etymotic HF2 iPhone headset and recordings came out great.

When is Apple going to release their 2 new sets of earphones? It's been 6 weeks.

I keep reading people say "iPod touch V2 now supports microphone input".
Well, I've been completely unsuccessful at making it work and I have V2.2.
Either there's a trick I don't know or nobody is actually recording anything.

I have three different iPhone/iPod touch mics and none of them is recognized.

Anyone have any insight into what's going on?

I just got this to use as an audio record for music lessons. I am using the iPod Touch 2g with iTalk Premium and the iVoiceIII microphone. Awesome combination--- perfecto. Only thing is you have to unplug the mic to play the files. No big deal. I'm trying the italksync app next, but it looks like it should work fine too.
