Sleep failure linked to Wacom tablet?

by CNET staff
A reader reports having a not uncommon symptom: a failure of his Mac to go to sleep when selected. In his case, he traced it to his Wacom Graphire 2 USB tablet. He writes: "Whenever I leave the mouse on the tablet, the monitor will not power down and the system will not go to sleep - ever. If I simply remove the mouse from the tablet before walking away from the machine, the monitor will enter power saving mode and the machine will go to sleep as dictated in the Energy Saver preferences. It would appear that the tablet is continually sending a system event to the OS when the mouse is making contact thereby preventing the idle state necessary for the Energy Saver actions."
