Problems booting from AppleCare-supplied TechTool Deluxe CD

by CNET staff

Some users are reporting problems with booting from the TechTool Deluxe CD for Intel-based Macs, provided as part of AppleCare.

The TechTool Deluxe CD is provided as a downloadable image, and while users are not experiencing problems obtaining or burning the image, some are experiencing issues with hangs at boot that occur after attempting to select the burned disc as a startup item.

MacFixIt reader Neil Miller writes:

"I have a new Intel-based 24" iMac which seems to work fine.  I bought AppleCare which contained a TechTool Deluxe disc which would not boot.  I called Apple and they told me to download an intel compatible universal image file to make a new bootable TechTool Deluxe CD.

"I did this, and found that the computer recognized the disk on startup with 'C' pressed, or with the option key for the startup manager. However, the startup boot from the CD hangs and the boot fails.  This may be a software problem with the downloaded image file.  Apple was notified."

If you are experiencing a similar issue, please let us know.

If it does happen then you might want to download newest update from Apple website.
    You can download it here:

    https://support.apple.com/techtooldeluxe/main?id=dl

    then input your serial number.
If you have Applecare and already registered then it will give you two download option which then you can choose which machine you have either PPC or intel
