We previously reported on an issue where iTunes 7.0.x fails to properly synchronize music and other tracks to various iPods, providing the error -48. At the time, we noted that Apple was looking into this issue, and offered several potential fixes for the problem.

Apple has now posted a Knowledge Base document [#304893] with another potential solution that requires the iPod to be restored. The fix is as follows:

  1. "Temporarily change the Time Zone setting in Mac OS X to Pacific Standard Time (PST) as shown below. This setting can be accessed from the Date & Time panel in System Preferences.
  2. Open the latest version of iTunes and Restore your iPod
  3. After successfully restoring your iPod, change the Time Zone back to your normal setting."
