Problems downloading new release of Parallels; "Keep trying" says tech support; mirrors

by CNET staff

Several users have reported problems downloading the latest release of Parallels Desktop (2.5.3186.0), the virtualization environment that allows running of Windows applications alongside Mac OS X on Intel-based Macs without a reboot. The new version was issued yesterday.

In many cases, the download problems manifest as a corrupt disk image or an unrecognizable file.

MacFixIt reader Pam Sargood writes:

"I've made five unsuccessful attempts to download this upgrade,  using both Safari and  Firefox. All downloads are ending prematurely with the file being unrecognized."

According to Parallels technical support, the issue is simply overloading and should resolve itself as traffic decreases. There are apparently no mirrors of the update.

One MacFixIt reader who contacted Parallels recounts:

"'Just keep trying and hope the heavy hits on the download server will decrease over time' was the only suggestion the Parallels Sales Rep could offer."

UPDATE: Uneasy Silence has posted a mirror download of Parallels Desktop 2.5.3186.0.

Several users have also made the Parallels 2.5.3186.0 release available as torrents, which can be found with a site like ISO Hunt, but using this method may violate Parallels distribution guidelines.
