ADAPTEC 39160 Card in older G4 (digital audio) caused kernal panics until removed. Restored functionality by re-installing the adapatec drivers (old but work great) and then replacing the card. Any one with legacy hardware and scssi gear should do the update with the manufactor's orginal drivers in hand!

My keyboard sound no longer works with 10.4.9 the graphic does, but not the actual sound. It is the standard keyboard on a1.8 MHz G5 non Intel machine.

I just upgraded both a G4 powerbook and a G5 tower from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 without significant difficulty. I simply ran the delta updater on the G4. On the G5 I first disconnected 2 firewire 400 external drives, 2 firewire 800 external drives and a FW400 scanner before upgrading, and I ran Disk Utility-repair (from a different startup disk) and repaired permissions (from the startup disk). I ran the delta updater, followed by the combo updater (the latter from a different startup drive). All devices worked normally when reconnected although at first my Microsoft keyboards didn't work through an external USB2 hub (but only on a direct connect); removing and reinstalling the Microsoft preference pane fixed that instantly. I think following correct procedures made this a smooth process -- dozens of tested apps all work just fine.

Since using 10.4.9 on my G5 Dual 2GB system, my fans all of sudden come on at top speeds and shuts down the monitor.

Apple said re-set pram, but it still persists ??? I can't even turn it off from the front panel at times and I have to unplug it to shut off. It dose not happen all the time????????
