iSync Knowledge Base documents: "does not support device"; .Mac issues

by CNET staff

Apple has published a new iSync troubleshooting document and updated an old one.

"iSync does not support device" message The first document (#305459) deals with an issue where a red dot appears next to a device icon in iSync or the message "iSync does not support the device" appears when attempting to synchronize.

Apple's instructions state that the problematic device entry should be removed from iSync, the driver for the device reinstalled, and the device re-added.

We previously reported on several related solutions here on MacFixIt, including:

Update firmware/driver If you are experiencing iSync issues, you may need to update your devices's firmware/driver. The firmware update should be available from your manufacturer's Web site.

Reset devices Alternatively, try resetting all devices via the following steps from Knowledge Base article #52318

  1. "Make sure that all your data is correct, current, and up-to-date in your Mac OS X Address Book, iCal, and Safari.
  2. Open iSync, then choose Reset All Devices from the Devices menu.
  3. In the window that appears, select This Computer as the reset source.
  4. Click Reset All."

iSync and .Mac The second document (#52318) deals with issues synchronizing data back and forth from .Mac accounts. Issues addressed include:

  • The computer cannot connect to your iDisk
  • You connect to .Mac, but iSync is not behaving as expected when syncing with .Mac
