Some users have reported problems launching applications after applying the Mac OS X 10.4.10 updater.

One reader writes:

"I didn't see this until this morning an did the combined update last night. Photoshop now quits before it loads all other parts of CS open. So far that seems to be the only issue, but a big one."

Check our tutorial "What to do when a Mac OS X application will not launch," for some fixes that are nearly always successful in these cases.

I have been having problems with Toast doing same as CS, closing before it opens. Looked at Toast log and it looked like it was having DiVX problems. Eliminated all DiVx files, brought it up once, then it failed again. Other parts of the app refuse to start stating that Toast needs to be registered. Reinstalled Toast after complete cleanout, same thing.

Used 10.4.10 intel delta patch. Will try combo patch.

Follow up to Toast problem: redid with safe mode/combo install, cleared up a couple of small problems, but not the Toast issue. Spotted discussion on Roxio about Perian causing problems with Toast not launching. Removed Perian and problems went away.

I had the same problem opening Photoshop CS. It would start to open and then quit. I tried the suggested fixes, none worked. Called AppleCare they were no help. Reinstalled OS X 10.4.9. Problem fixed, CS opens just fine. I did not have a problem with any other aps.

One of my Mac users was having the same problem with Firefox and Acrobat not launching since the update. I double-checked by creating a new account and the same happened in that account as well. I ended up doing a fresh install of 10.4.9 on a second internal hard disk on her Mac which fixed it.
