After installing this and the iTunes upgrade, I can no longer start-up any of the MS Office 2004 applications. I have tried reinstalling the updates from stand-alone installers and running Disk Warrior, but I still cannot run the Office suite.

I am running OS 10.4.10 on a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 3GB of Memory.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yup. Same here. No office apps. Everything else seems fine.

I'm having the same problem. It seems to have broken all CFM-based PowerPC apps, including Office 2004. Mach-O PowerPC apps are typically OK.

I do wonder.. Do you have any third party QuickTime plugin that provides MPEG-4 Part 10 playback installed? FWIW, I have Perian 1.0 installed and no issues with PowerPC applications, CFM or otherwise.

Earlier today my Microsoft applications (Entourage, Excel and Word) were working just fine, thank you very much.

Then I downloaded and installed both the iTunes 7.3.1 and QuickTime 7.2 updates (did not use Software Update from System Preferences) and now MS Entourage, Excel, Word and PowerPoint will not start. I get one bounce from the dock icon and then nothing. However, MS AutoUpdate and Messenger work fine!

Running Applejack and repairing preferences from the Disk Utility had no effect. Someone else tried Disk Warrior, which didn't work either, so I'll not waste my time on that route.

Mac Pro 2x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 4 GB Ram, running 10.4.10.

I also no longer have the ability to launch any PPC applications. Unfortunately nothing is being recorded to any of the normal logs either... let's hope someone clever figures this one out, or Apple fixes it quickly.

I took a look over on the Apple Discussion Board at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1039074&tstart=0 and found a topic headed: Rosetta no longer working. Seems others are having the same troubles. It's not just MS software, but all programs requiring Rosetta. Aaaaargh!

Update: Microsoft just posted Office2004-1136Update. No surprise that it doesn't work either. On my Intel Mac Pro only MS apps are affected, out of 242 apps. I even booted into safe mode and tried to install the Office update. The dock icon bounced three times then died. No MS app dock icon bounced after that.

I have some other apps that won't launch as well, including Call of Duty 2 Single Player. The Multiplayer works just fine, though. I've done just about every maintenance thing I know how to do. No luck! There has to be a way to fix this.

QUESTION: Are the Intel users the only ones having problems? Or is it also Tiger users (exclusively)?

I'm running OS X 10.4.10 on a Powerbook G4. Having problems with Unsanity haxies (yeah, I know, but they're useful) not working or working sporatically. Also, my Camino browser bookmark bar is blank. Otherwise everything else seems to work, including MS Office X. I don't remember ever having problems with *any* Mac updates in the past. Guess my lucky streak has ended.

I too have the same issues on an Intel Mac Book Pro with system 10.4.10. The same updates have not affected a Power PC G5 --- all MS Office applications work properly.

A POSSIBLE FIX FOR LOSS OF ROSETTA

After experiencing a loss of Rosetta after applying these updates, I applied Perian 1.0 ("The Swiss Army Knife for QuickTime?") -- http://perian.org/ -- as was suggested in another user's post. That did not help.

Then, however, at the suggestion of yet another user suffering this collapse, I downloaded and ran the latest Mac OS X Update Combo file (available at the Apple Support web page - http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/).

SUCCESS! I now have my Office suite programs back.
