MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.3: resolves graphics issues

Apple has released an EFI Firmware (version 1.3) update that fixes a display issue on 2.2/2.4GHz 15-inch MacBook Pro models. Presumably Apple is referring to an issue we previously covered where users experience color distortion after applying MacBook Pro 2.2/2.4GHz Software Update 1.0 -- that update modifies several important files, particularly those related to the NVidia graphics subsystems on applicable models.

This update requires MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0, which may have introduced the issue in the first place.

The new release is available as a 1.8 MB standalone download.

Alongside the update, Apple has released Firmware Restoration CD 1.3 which can restore the firmware of an Intel-based Macintosh computer in the case of a failed or interrupted update. It's important to download this file and burn the restoration disc before downloading and applying the aforementioned firmware update.

I think I wrecked my MacBook with this update...

Firmware 1.3 was released to fix video issues on the macbook pro, but I think it has caused more than it has solved! Now I have these rolling bands on my screen. It's almost like an interference pattern. They weren't there before the update!!!

got the same problem. I returned already one macbook pro because it had these rolling bands. I was happy to get another one that was fine. But after this firmware update I got these rolling bands again.

With 10.4.10 and Software Update 1.0 already installed, the Firmware Update wouldn't install. I ended up re-installing the original system (10.4.9) then Software Update 1.0, THEN the firmware would install. Then I updated to 10.4.10.
