VMWare Fusion broken by MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0?
We've received multiple independent reports that MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1 breaks functionality of the VMWare Fusion virtualization software for some users.
MacFixIt reader Matt writes:
"(After applying MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1) when inside the VMware window using window mode or full screen mode, Windows XP doesn't react to any mouse clicks. The cursor is a pointing hand. There's only unity mode left to use, which is slower than full screen."
Stefano Gervasoni adds:
"Sophos Antivirus vers. 4.8.12 and VMware Fusion vers. 1 are no more working after installing MacBookProSoftwareUpdate1.1 on my my MacBook Pro 2.4. 'InterCheck' extension in /Library/Application Support/Sophos Anti-Virus/InterCheck.app/Contents/Resources/InterCheck.kext, and 'vmmon.kext' in /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/kexts/vmmon.kext are not recognized at computer startup."
Per Stefano's report, it would appear that some type of kernel extension conflict is breaking VMWare fusion on the afflicted machines. The following is a list of kernel extensions installed by MacBookProSoftwareUpdate1.1.pkg:
/System/Library/Extensions/- GeForce.kext
- GeForce8xxxGLDriver.bundle
- GeForceGA.plugin
- GeForceVADriver.bundle
- NVDANV50HAL.kext
- NVDAResman.kext
- com.apple.kernelcaches (a folder in /System/Library/Caches)
- Extensions.kextcache (a file in /System/Library)
