Apple AirPort Base Station Update 2007-002 (#2): Improves USB disk support

Late last night, Apple released AirPort Base Station Update 2007-002, citing improvements for AirPort Utility (will be updated to version 5.2.1), AirPort Disk Utility (will be updated to version 1.2.1), and AirPort Base Station Agent (in /System/Library/CoreServices, will be updated to version 1.2.1). No specific enhancements were listed.

Several readers have now reported that the update improves compatibility USB disks plugged in as "AirDisks" to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (802.11n). A poster to VersionTracker, Felix01, writes:

"I have three drives with USB2 connections and one of them (a WiebeTech RTX 100) wouldn't mount on the wireless network when plugged in to my 802.11n AEBS even though it mounted just fine when connected directly to any of my three computers. But it does now after this update [...] First, opened up AirPort Utility, selected the AEBS, hit the new 'Manual Setup' button and after it opened, clicked on 'Disks' to find the drive was now listed...that was good news indeed. Then clicked the 'File Sharing' tab to ensure I had 'Enabled' file sharing. Next, opened AirPort Disk Utility and confirmed both boxes were 'Checked.' Lastly, pulled down the AirPort Disk icon from the top menu (when in Finder), selected the AEBS the recalcitrant USB drive was connected to and told the next window to 'Connect with Password.' Closed AirPort Disk Utility and lo and behold, the drive mounted on the Desktop."
