iMovie 7.0.1 ('08) released: Address .Mac Web gallery, other issues
Apple has released iMovie 7.0.1, which the company says "addresses issues associated with publishing to .Mac Web Gallery. It also improves overall stability and addresses a number of other minor issues."
We previously reported that some users are experiencing poor video quality when exporting media using the "Gallery" function in iMovie 7.0, which publishes to .Mac. It appears that this issue is resolved in the new release.
For more potential issues targeted by this update, see the "previous coverage" section below.
The new release is available as a 9MB download.
Previous coverage:
- iMovie '08 (#3): A simple fix for some crashes
- iMovie '08 (#2): More on kernel panics/crashes at launch
- iMovie '08: Third-party plug-ins not compatible; Kernel panics at launch

The video bitrate appears to be stuck around 250kbps irrespective of screen or video size. So you could have a published video on the Gallery.mac.com website which has a video size of 960x540 but has a bitrate of 250kbps!!
You can imagine how bad this looks, blocky and grainy. The same for exports to iDVD. Unless I carry out a manual export with my own settings, I do not get a consistent quality video.
It really is terrible, and unusable, and has made me doubt the quality of Apple's products or their ability to produce good quality software.
So 7.01 does not fix minor Gallery issues, believe me! It does nothing of the sort, and is still broken and the worse apple software I have ever used!
Terrible Mr Jobs E- must try much much harder
