iMovie '08 (7.0.x) Special Report: Displays wrong help version, fix

by CNET staff

Some users are reporting an issue where the new iMovie' 08 help is not displayed, and Help Viewer instead presents iMovie '06's help content.

One reader writes:

"Hello, I just bought iLife 08. There sure is a learning curve because 7.0 is so much different than the previous iMovie. In attempting to master it I referred to the iMovie help under the Help menu. To my surprise it offers help for the previous iMovie HD 6!"

In these cases, a corrupt plist file may be to blame; an issue easily resolved by deleting the following:

  • ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist
(this is the Library folder at the root level of your User [~] directory [users/username/...]) Close and re-open Help Viwer, and the proper contents should be displayed. Failing the above solution, you may need to delete the following files:
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpui
  • ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.help.plist
  • ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpui.plist

and re-launch Help Viewer.
