Apple introduces Logic Studio Pro with Logic Pro 8

Apple has unveiled Logic Studio, a suite of tools that for musicians with which to "create, produce and perform in the studio and on the stage." Priced at $500, the package includes Logic Pro 8, a significant upgrade that includes a new interface and introduces MainStage, a new live performance application. Also included is Soundtrack Pro 2, Apple's audio post production software; Studio Instruments, made up of 40 instruments; Studio Effects, with 80 effect plug-ins; a Studio Sound Library; and other production utilities.

A press release release reads "[...] Logic Pro 8, now with an intuitive single-window interface for instant access to powerful music creation and production functions, including snap-to-transient selection and sample accurate editing directly in the Arrange window. New audio production tools such as Quick Swipe Comping and dynamic channel strip creation speed up common tasks. Logic Pro 8 also includes end-to-end surround production capabilities with innovative surround panning controls, multichannel tracks and busses, and support for True Surround software instruments and effects."

Also released was version 8 of Logic Express, Apple's $200 alternative to Logic Studio Pro ($100 to upgrade from an earlier version). Apple's press release states: "Logic Express 8, a full-featured yet easy-to-use tool, provides a powerful and approachable way for musicians to create music at an incredibly attractive price. Delivering the power, precision, and professional toolset of Logic Pro 8, Logic Express includes a redesigned interface that allows musicians to write, record, edit, and mix with unparalleled speed and ease. It also comes with 100 instruments and effects from Logic Studio."

This version provides the new Logic Pro 8 features such as single-window design, easier multi-take recording, improved audio editing tools, new instruments and effects, and Quick Swipe comping.
