TechTool Pro 4.6.1 not working under Leopard for all users
We previously reported that TechTool Pro has become one of the first commercial disk/system utilities to gain full compatibility with Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard). Previous iterations of the software could cause problems with the installation of Leopard -- the presence of an "eDrive," in some cases, actually causing a prompt to reinitialize the startup drive where Leopard is being installed.
While issues with eDrive no longer exist, users are experiencing a series of new problems with the purportedly Leopard-compatible release.
One reader writes:
"I have received the TTP4 4.6.1 update CD that has the Mac OS X 10.5.x updates, I Installed it on a Mac Pro running 10.5.1. It loaded fine but from there on I had nothing but trouble. Everything time I click on a function I got the beach ball, doing nothing at all froze my Mac totally and I couldn't wake it from sleep. Reinstalled it to no avail and finely uninstalled it and everything went back to normal and work fine."
Another reader, Scotty, writes:
"Ordered upgrade of TechTool Pro on disk, when it arrived all screens are shades of yellow with white, unreadable, have addressed problem to Micromat web site."
As a reminder, you need to delete your old eDrive then recreate it with the new version of TechTool; otherwise, serious problems can ensue. One reader writes:
"Updating the eDrive on my MacBook with the new TechTool Pro completely fried my hard drive. No disk recovery programs could fix it. It is at Tech Restore now since my backup drive also failed."
