Mac OS X 10.5.2 Special Report: Override automatic disk shutdown mechanism
MacFixIt reader Jim Muha points out an interesting change in Mac OS X 10.5.2 with regard to Disk repair:
"The computer will now shut down if an automatic disk repair does not succeed during startup."
We haven't seen this mechanism in action yet, so we don't know if there is a warning regaring the impending shutdown. The override consists of booting into Single User Mode (hold Command and S during startup), manually run fsck (without the -p option).
