/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstops failed
You had me scared, as I am using a Phaser 6180MFP-D over Ethernet as well. I lucked out. I hadn't gone the CUPS route, which might explain why mine still works. Try grabbing the latest drivers from Xerox.
Good Luck,
Rocky
Have the same issue:
I have two printers (Apple PS 16/600 and a Lexmark E120n) networked via ethernet to my iMac. Cannot print to either printer after installing latest Security Update. Document goes to the printer and then is stopped.
I briefly see this message in the printer window:
user/libexec/cups/filter/pstops failed
I have not made any modifications to the standard installation of Mac OSX 10.5.2 (I did not install any version of CUPS that was not on the original install DVD for Mac OSX).
I tried reinstalling the Xerox Phaser 8550 drivers but get the same error. I was printing fine using Appletalk (networked) until this update. I also tried Bonjour as an alternative to Appletalk with no success. File clearly ends up in the queue but printing stops each time with the same error:
/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstops failed
I can print to my networked Brother 420CN!
I'm on a 2x3 GHz Quad-Core Intel MacPro with 4GB RAM.
Any suggestions for a fix would be much appreciated.
Connected directly from MBPro to iMac using the iMac's ip address in Finder Go ---> Connect to Server. Was prompted for id/password. got connected that way. disconnected drive. Went back to Finder opened new window. Clicked iMac icon on left side. Was then presented with shared drives rather than a blank window. Perhaps there was an issue with a keychain entry? unknown only that it works as expected now in either direction.
the console prints:

Installing the newest HP printer drivers did not help. Changing the Printer driver from <HP LaserJet 4050 Series> to <HP LaserJet 4050 - Gutenprint v5.1.3> worked.
But that?s no solution, because you can not configure the printer options.
Any idea out there?
Uninstall "Instant Hijack" and your bus errors should go away, or at least they have for everyone I've been in contact with.
Then yell at Rogue Amoeba to yell at Unsanity and get them to fix their haxie to play well with the new Security Update.
Yahoo! That did it! Bless you! I took your suggestion and uninstalled "Instant Hijack" that came with Rogue Amoeba's "Audio Hijack Pro" and I'm back to printing on my Xerox Phaser 8550!
Thank you kucharsk!
Uninstalled "Instant Hijack", not even logged out, tried to print, and - it worked !
Thanks kucharsk !!!
I had not yet applied the update to my Leopard MacBook, and checked that I could print in this manner - it worked fine. I then applied the update and printed a web page: there is a quickly flashed 'NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE' (?) message, and my print job is held marked in the same way.
I deleted the Mac printer (it is my only one) and recreated it and tried to print again, with the same lack of success.

If uninstalling Instant Hijack doesn't work for fixing printing problems after the security update, try resetting the printing system--this is more thorough than just removing your printers from the printer list individually. Under OS 10.4, this option is under the "Printer Setup Utility" menu. Under OS 10.5, this option is stupidly hidden--open System Preferences -> Print & Fax, then hold down the Control key, and click on the list of printers. A popup menu will appear, which includes "Reset printing system".
