Apple acknowledges MobileMe problems, no "push" for Macs
Apple has officially acknowledged various MobileMe problems, and has offered an apology letter to MobileMe subscribers, noting in particular the 15 minute delays for Mac synchronization. The company is also offering a 30-day extension to existing customers of the service.
The letter reads, in part:
"Although core services such as Mail, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and Gallery went relatively smoothly, the new MobileMe web applications had lots of problems initially. Fortunately we have worked through those problems and the web apps are now up and running.
"Another snag we have run into is our use of the word 'push' in describing everything under the MobileMe umbrella. While all email, contact or calendar changes on the iPhone and the web apps are immediately synced to and from the MobileMe 'cloud,' changes made on a PC or Mac take up to 15 minutes to sync with the cloud and your other devices. So even though things are indeed instantly pushed to and from your iPhone and the web apps today, we are going to stop using the word 'push' until it is near-instant on PCs and Macs, too.
"We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge. Your extension will be reflected in your account settings within the next few weeks."

Will someone please tell Stevie that the "ME decade" ended a century ago?
Howdy,
Try going to homepage.mac.com and login.
Good Luck,
Herb Schulz
THANK YOU!
Even though this only goes to the HomePage site, it's better than nothing.
Because the new-fangled MobileMe page will not let me log in. Period.
I can sync fine (after performing an annoying "merge" sync caused by the MobileMe software upgrade), but cannot log in to the web services.
Anyone else having this problem?
My old .mac user ID and password log me in to me.com with no trouble.
On the other hand, I didn't use the dot Mac features deleted for Mobile Me so I can appreciate the new user interface and organization without lingering resentment over what was lost. I assume those who used the Home Page feature now find Mobile Me too utilitarian; for them, one size does not fit all. As for the iCard feature, there are plenty of alternatives out there for personalized e-cards, including templates in Apple Mail.

Don't anthropomorphize computers.
They hate that.
Oh, come on! Merton Waughmutti is way worse as a name than MobileMe. :-)
Of course, they said that about the ?iPod? name when it was first announced, too. :-)
I also have been sorely disappointed with the diminishing value of .Mac in the transition to MobileMe... apart from the disfunction debacle.
I used iCards frequently, too, and as long as my .Mac HomePages aren't nuked, then iCards is the service I am sending most of my feedback to Apple about privately and publicly:

There are no iCard/eCard services which come anywhere near close to the ad-free, malware-free, speed, flexibility, and elegance of Apple's iCard service. For those still running Tiger, Mail templates are not an option... plus those iCard mourners who are running Leopard testify that there are no comparable templates in Mail.
Besides the .Mac privilege of using one's own images, I really liked the quirky artwork and photos Apple offered for stock iCards. All my recipients commented on how much they enjoyed receiving them.

(12 Comments)It would be nice to have PC users, who have NO CONTROL over which software they can use to access the internet, could access me.com.
Seems like me.com is down now, maybe their fixing it.
