More issues with this major update.
Printing issues Some users have reported printing issues after the Mac OS X 10.5.5 update. In some cases, resetting the printing system may resolve the issue.
This process deletes all printer queues and jobs, resets all printer settings to their default by deleting configuration files and performs a permissions check on the /tmp directory.
- Launch Printer Setup Utility (located in Applications/Utilities)
- From the Printer Setup Utility menu, choose Reset Printing System.
- Click Reset.
One reader writes:
"I had deleted printers with the " - " and then added them again with " " but after that I was still unable to print to our network printers. It wasn't until I actually reset the print system prefs was I able to start with fresh settings. This did the trick!"
iDisk will not sync Some users report iDisk sync issues under Mac OS X 10.5.5. One reader writes:
"After updating my MacPro to OS X 10.5.5, I suddenly could not sync my iDisk. I had no trouble reaching it online, I just couldn't sync. None of Apple's ideas worked for fixing the problem. Apple insisted the problem had to be with port 443, which is used for syncing, while port 80 (used for WebDAV) was still OK.
This reader found that two methods of network connectivity -- AirPort and ethernet -- were in use, Disconnecting the ethernet cable allowed the sync to proceed.
Sleep/wake issues Some users are report sleep/wake issues after the update, including a return of the notorious MacBook/MacBook Pro stays-awake-closed issue.
One reader writes:
"After applying the 10.5.5 combo updater to two MacBook Pros (Early 2008), I notice that if you put the machine to sleep, close the lid, and reopen it not to long after shutting the lid (like you forgot something), you hear the HD wake up, but the screen stays dark. You have to hard power off and on to get things to work."
Our special report on sleep/wake issues covers a number of potential fixes for this issue, but one of the most successful workarounds involves disconnection/removal of all external devices must be disconnected before putting the machine to sleep.
