Mac OS X 10.5.6 Causes iPhone Jailbreak/Unlock Problems

by CNET staff

According to posters to the site:

"Minutes ago, Apple released the new OS X 10.5.6 update. We have to put a Big Warning on this update, because it causes problems with DFU mode. So with the Update 10.5.6 you cannot Jailbreak or Unlock your iPhone / iPod Touch with PwnageTool or QuickPwn as on the newest MacBooks. Update your System only if you really need it!"

According to some, the workaround or fix is to replace some of the 10.5.6 frameworks with files from 10.5.5 overwriting the newer versions of the files in the kernel extension IOUSBFamily.kext. A safer workaround is to reinstall Mac OS X via an Archive and Install and upgrade it to 10.5.5.

Big shock - An Apple Software Update causes problems in using products in ways Apple doesn't want you to and that voids the warranty on your phone.

    What am I missing?

Supposedly a powered or unpowered usb hub will bypass this issue. Machine to USB hub to iPhone in DFU mode and jailbreak applications can see the iphone for jailbreaking.

I have no idea what DFU mode is. What I do know is that I can no longer access my Cell service provider (simcard is OK in my Nokia) although everything else seems to be working. Is this what happens when you update to 10.5.6?
If this is what Apple do to people who support their products why bother making them.
