Mac mini Bluetooth connectivity issues
Users have reported that the new Mac mini is having issues maintaining a stable Bluetooth connection with various Bluetooth devices. The problems generally involve wireless keyboards and mice.
Apple Support Discussions user TWH3 describes the issue:
"All was fine, but now I can't connect either a brand new Apple keyboard or my mouse. When going through the Bluetooth Setup Assistant the mouse and keyboard are visible and 'connected', but they just can't pair.
For the keyboard, I get given the number to enter, but then the Mini doesn't receive it. On some occasions the Bluetooth System Preferences pane says that they are connected and paired, but neither work.
There are no problems whatsoever using the same keyboard and mouse on my brand new iMac.
I am also noticing that the airport signal is fluctuating from full strength (which it always has been in the few days I've had it and was always the case with the Apple TV that was in exactly the same place)."
Possible Fixes
This appears to be a hardware issue with the new Mac minis (possibly related to the connection of the Bluetooth antenna, as described below). If you are experiencing this issue, bring your computer back to the Apple retailer that sold it or call AppleCare directly at 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) to set up a repair.
Apple Support Discussions user Randy Morgan offers:
"I have a Mini and it had a similar problem. Intermittently cutting out and what not. I could not figure this out for the longest time until I opened up my Mini and I unconnected and did a tight reconnection on my Bluetooth antenna and module. After I did that I haven't had a single issue with it. In fact, it actually looked like it was fine but the messing with the wires definitely did something good because it works flawlessly!!"
Please Note: Dismantling a MacMini is a difficult process and should only be performed by advanced computer technicians.
