Apple has released a firmware update for the Early 2009 Unibody 17" MacBook Pro. This update is recommended for all users and addresses the appearance of vertical lines and distorted graphics in the notebook's display.

This update is designed to run in OS X Leopard, and is available via Software Update, or by direct download from the following location:

As with any firmware update, be sure your computer is plugged in to a reliable power source before updating, and ensure your data is fully backed up. Interrupted firmware updates can lead to severe hardware problems.

More information on the update and the updating process can be found in this Apple Knowledgebase Document: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3498

It's my impression that after the update the Unibody Laptop runs hotter under the left hand than it used to. It was already warmer there than the right. Anyone else notice this? I've been using the Higher Performance card exclusively.

I was having no graphic problem that I noticed but the update was recommended to all early 2009 owners.
