iTunes 8.1.1 update now available
Apple has released its newest update to iTunes, version 8.1.1. The headlining features of this update are improvements when working with large libraries, browsing the iTunes Store, preparing to sync with your iPods and iPhones, and optimizing photos.
Other improvements and bug fixes include:
- Syncs with the new iPod Shuffle
- Allows friend requests in iTunes DJ
- Genius sidebar for Movies and TV Shows
- Performance enhancements for downloading iTunes Plus songs
- AutoFill option for manually managed iPods
- CD imports at iTunes Plus quality
- Many accessibility improvements
- Parental Controls can disable iTunes U. and iTunes Store separately
iTunes 8.1.1 is available for download via Software Update or directly from Apple.

I never had this issue.... when does it occur on your Mac?
When I upgrade songs to iTunes Plus, iTunes will ask whether to leave them on the Desktop or move them to the Trash.
I select "Move them to the Trash" and at best one or two will make it to the Trash but I still end up having to "Show Duplicates" and manually have to pick out the old "Protected AAC" versions and discard them myself.
I don't have that problem, but noticed 8.1.1 synching still doesn't elegantly handle audio tracks copied to my iPod Touch that are later updated to iTunes Plus. It'll offer to copy files from the iPod that don't exist in iTunes and permanently delete them otherwise, with no indication what they actually are (which is the root cause for this problem). Of course I'll say "yes" to not risk losing something, then discover they're the original audio tracks that had been successfully deleted automatically from iTunes after an iTunes Plus update. So, now they've been copied back from the iPod and need to be deleted a second time -- manually.
"Hiya, Clint. For a mere US$311.86, we'll bring your iTunes Library up to snuff ... "
I'll just be "un-DRM-ing" a select score or so albums.
The upgrade went fine on my MBP.

That's such a great bug fix. Too often I am wanting to be right where I was on a playlist when I left.
