Using Mac OS X 10.5.6 Leopard users with Internet access can share their connection via AirPort to other users that may not be able to connect. A common example is when your work computer is tethered via ethernet and a Wi-Fi signal does not exist for your laptop. Follow these simple steps to create a personal AirPort signal to connect to the Internet.

Setting up your connected computer
If you are sharing an Internet connection over AirPort you must turn your AirPort card on before you set up your connected computer.

1. Open System Preferences and click the Sharing preference pane.
2. Highlight "Internet Sharing" from the Service menu on the left of the window.
3. In the "Share your connection from:" drop down menu select "Ethernet".
(Note: You may also share an Internet connection from your Built-in Firewire, AirPort, or Bluetooth. You will want to select the option that is currently serving your Internet connection.)
4. In the "To computers using:" box, select how you would like to output your signal. In this case we are setting up our own wireless network, so choose AirPort.
5. Click the "AirPort Options..." button under the "To computers using:" box.
(Note: This option will not appear if you are sharing an AirPort connection.)
6. In the dialogue window:
1. Enter a Network Name (the default is your computer's name).
2. Select a Channel (in most cases an automatic channel is fine).
3. You may choose to enable encryption via WEP to protect your personal network. Simply enter and confirm your password.
4. Click OK.
7. Click the check box next to "Internet Sharing" in the Service menu.
(Note: You should see a green dot appear next to "Internet Sharing:" as well as the status of the service.)
Setting up your connecting computer
1. Be sure your AirPort card is turned on. Use the menu bar icon and select "Turn AirPort On".
2. In the AirPort menu bar icon drop down menu select the wireless network you set up from your connected computer. If you enabled encryption on your connected computer, you will need to enter that password to access the shared connection.
