Apple updates MacBook Pro SMC Firmware to version 1.3
There is an update for both 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro systems that addresses problems with fan behavior when running under high workload conditions.
This update is available through Software Update on eligible systems (perhaps older non-unibody models, since unibody systems available to us have not shown this update available), and can also be downloaded from the following location: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/macbookprosmcfirmwareupdate13.html
This updater will download and install to the Utilities folder and from there will run to update the firmware. Be sure your power cord is plugged in during the update, and do not interrupt the update as this can result in a dead computer. The installer comes with detailed on-screen instructions for how to properly apply the software.
More about SMC firmware updates and how they are installed is available in this Apple knowledgebase document: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2368

Battery update 1.3 contained this SMC update, which I have already done. System sez "For 10.4.1 and 10.5.7"
I'd like to know specifically which MacBook Pro models this update is for. My 2.33 GHz "17 MBP. On Shut Down, it says an unexpected error occurred (28 : 3). Your firmware can not be updated.
What's happening?

- The installer says my October 08 MBPro doesn't need the firmware update. So which machines is it made for?
