Apple has updated iTunes to version 8.2 which provides support for iPhones and iPod touches that are running version 3.0 of the iPhone software, and in addition includes a variety of bug fixes.

The QuickTime 7.6.2 update contains fixes for 'reliability and security', according to the documentation released with the update, and is recommended for all QuickTime users. It is recommended to update to the latest version of QuickTime when running the latest version of iTunes.

More information on the updates can be found in the following Apple knowledgebase documents:

    My 16GB iPhone 3G has 3.0b5 installed, which required a beta of iTunes 8.2 (b10 i believe).

Since updating to iTunes 8.2 (final?), my iPhone disconnects every few minutes, only to show up again for a new round of backup and sync...

    How odd...

the new iTunes version refuses to talk to my iPod Touch. First it claims there was a password required, the second and third time just an unknown error '0xE80000001'

Just a quick note to those who had installed the developer versions of iPhone OS (3.0b5) and iTunes (8.2b10):
I had posted earlier that my iPhone was dropping on and off iTunes after the update to 8.2 final, causing it to re-sync each time.
Well, it turns out that there is a very strange and difficult fix for that...
Repair Disk Permissions, and a quick Restart..
    That did the trick ;-)
    Be Well,
    Peter

works fine with my G5 tower and iPhone 3G. Interesting new feature is before I am allowed to sync my security-locked iPhone, I must input my pass-code and unlock the phone

Actually, that's not a new feature; iTunes 8.1.1 & Quicktime 7.6 requires me to unlock iPhone before syncing. Not to be a stickler, I'm just saying...

After updating to 8.2 my library shows about 3000 less tunes than before. Fortunately, i have my library backed up with Time Machine and Super Duper, but this is worrisome...

I cannot download iTunes 8.2 and QuickTime 7.6.2 from MacUpdate. Whenever I hit download, Safari will point me to http://appldlnd.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iTunes8/081-6183.20090601.pldj3/iTunes8.2.dmg

and nothing happened, no file can be downloaded to my MBP. But if I go to MacUpdate from Windows PC, the download is OK, why?

Also after update to iTunes 8.2, and if I hit Check for Update from iTunes menu, a dialog appeared stated that it cannot connect to iTunes Update server.

Is that my Mac has a problem?

try using 'software update' in the apple menu.
is it possible that your itunes is behind a software firewall? maybe your employer has blocked that domain on his network?

I noticed that both machine redirect after I clicked download now buutton on MacUpdate pagem but my MBP get stucked after redirect. Another iMac redirect and open download windows then start downloading. When I download from other site (non APple) Safari download OK.

The same behavior ioccured with Opera and Firefox too.

iTunes 8.2 refuse to check for update (when click on Check for Update in iTunes menu. It stated that it can't contact update server or Internet connection is not available. In fact, Internet work fine

Since iTunes 8.2 update, the "Duplicates" feature has returned when dragging Podcasts to my Shuffle.
    It had disappeared with V8.x
This is a great feature when managing the iPod Shuffle.

As always, I waited until my software update panel told me that updates were available. As usual, everything went perfectly as it has for well over 20+ years. Absolutely no problems in using all the updated software since installation.

I did, however, also have to enter my iPhone passcode the first time I connected my iPhone to my iMac after installing the updates, but only that one time, afterwards, it connected automatically as before.

Not sure why some people seem to always have problems with updates since I've never had any?ever; I can only think that in some way they are breaking the "basic" rules of operation, meaning that perhaps they have moved certain Apple files around, installed "haxies," installed BETA software, installed "flaky" plug-ins, etc.

One thing I have always done before installing ANY update was to first do a backup using SuperDuper, then running TimeMachine (I've never needed them, but I still always do it). Additionally, prior to running any update, I close every running application/utility, especially those in the menu bar. I also run OnyX every last Sunday of every month to ensure that all is well. Perhaps some of those tips will help others in avoiding future update problems.

Sorry, I meant to start this as a new comment, but hit the incorrect button. I'll redo correctly.
