The final release includes an enhanced "Nitro" Javascript engine, and final touches and fixes for the new features of Safari such as Top Sites, History Search, Cover Flow, and updated web standards such as HTML 5 and advanced CSS effects.

The update should be available via Software Update for those who have the Safari 4 Public Beta installed, and can be downloaded via Safari's downloads page for those who do not: http://www.apple.com/safari/download/

I dont believe PithHelmet has been updated in a while, and the last that the website mentions is support for Safari 3.2. Hopefully they'll update and release it to be officially supported in Safari 4.

Safari 4 crashes on all my macs using OSX 10.5.7 when I try to connect to the online Apple Store. How bad a mistake can they make?

Ditto and it's not a good new experience... this is the first time that anything installed by auto-update has failed to work on any of my computers. Could be a plugin like Safariblock ..?

I read these posts so I tried on my G5 desktop and intel MacBook Pro. No problems with Apple Store on either one. Both running 10.5.7 with all the updates applied.

What I notice is how much faster Safari 4 is. No far I am very pleased.

Yes. if I go to the Apple website and click STORE it crahses. If I put in the direct URL for the Apple Store it does not crash.

I can click on the Store tab at the Apple site, and it works just fine - no crash.

No crashes here, but so HUGELY slow, compared to the last version of Safari 3.

Do you experience the same ?

Deleting the com.apple.Safari.plist preference file fixed the problem for me. YMMV.

Safari AdBlock was updated, rather quickly for the Beta. Haven't seen any news from PithHelmet. I just hope AdBlock will still work in the final, 4. ;-)

It seems faster than Safari 3 and even faster than the last Beta of Safari 4.

The previously listed Terminal commands to disable or change the new features don't work with this finished version - anyone know how to get rid of Top Sites and CoverFlow and stop Safari spewing images of websites into hidden folders. BTW, does anyone know where it's storing those images this time (in 10.4 and 10.5)? :-)

I was running the beta with tabs on top and the blue progress bar added back in. Happy as a clam.

I updated to the final release, lost my top tabs and all that extra browser window space, and it broke my WidgetTerm dashboard widget, which I used religiously for work. _Very_ unhappy.

I just installed the new version and am getting this error message: SIMBL Error Failed to load the Tasy Apps AVPlugin plugin. *** -[NSProxy doesNotRecognizeSelector:respondsToSelector:]called!

Any ideas? Safari won't run after I dismiss the error message. I tried installing it through Software Update and also as a standalone download. Same results. Frustrating.

Go to ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins and remove the plug-in, possibly Videobox.
The other option is to go to /Library/Internet Plug-ins. I'm not sure whether you'd find it in the system library or user library.

I take back my earlier statement. I found your problem here:

    ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/TastyAppsAVPlugin.bundle

... although it didn't stop my Safari 4.0 from running. My plugin is dated April 6, 2009. Either you have a different version, or you're running another one of their apps. Either way, deleting it should fix your problem.

Yep, that fixed it. Thank you very much. Turns out the plugin was for Videobox which I don't even have installed anymore. All good now.

    TastyApps now has an update!

We've just released the fix - its still called version 2.8.4 - so the solution is to download the latest Videobox ver. 2.8.4 from our website www.tastyapps.com and make sure you launch it at least one time from your Dock to ensure the correct Safari 4 plugin gets installed.

To manually remove the plugin to get Safari working so you can download updated version of Videobox 2.8.4:

    1) Quit Safari and Videobox.
    2) In the Finder, hit Apple-Shift-G and type-in ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins
    3) In the folder that opens-up, there should be a TastyAppsAVPlugin.bundle file; please move it to the trash.
