Problems with the 10.6 "Snow Leopard" up-to-date ordering page.

by CNET staff

Apple has offered a upgrade to Snow Leopard for existing Leopard users for $30, and has offered the upgrade to owners of qualifying products (those purchased between June 8 and December 26 of 2009) for around $10. Some people who have recently purchased computers have tried to register their computers with the $10 up-to-date program have been running into problems.

Apple discussion poster "coop0129" writes:

"Just purchased a new MacBook Pro on 6/15. When I try to use the up-to-date program on www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate it lets me sign in but shows my shopping cart as empty. I can't get it to let me pre-order Snow Leopard for $9.95."

Apple's website with information on the up-to-date program has working links for what computers qualify and various terms and conditions; however, when some people have used the links to sign in and register their computers, they are not able to add purchasable items to their carts.

Despite this error, there are a couple of methods you can choose to register your system.

  1. Take it to an Apple store.
If you have an Apple store nearby you can always take your computer there to have the employees register it and sign you up for the up-to-date program.

  2. Use a direct link to the registration page.
The links on the up-to-date page require you to log in with an Apple account first, which may be part of the conflicts. Some people have had success by using the direct store link to the up-to-date product, which is the following: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?partNumber=MC204Z/A

  3. Use snail-mail or fax.
Apple has a downloadable PDF with information on the up-to-date program, that has an order form to fill out on its last page. Mail or fax the form to Apple as per the instructions, and you should be registered. The form can be downloaded here: http://images.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/docs/OSX_HW_UTD_FF.pdf

The biggest problem is that there is a 'rest of the world' issue it ONLY applies to USA and Canadian Customers!!

what about the rest of us (Europe for an example) looks like we'll have to stop our purchases until AFTER its released that will backfire on apple sales as not offering a upgrade program on a market thats as big as your home market sort of defeats the object of the program.
