MacBook Pro Special Report: Poor general network performance
Some users are reporting poor network performance from the MacBook Pro, an issue we are not experiencing in-house.
Note that we cover a broad range of Intel-based Mac networking issues in a separate series of articles, along with various workarounds that may also be applicable in the case of these MacBook Pro issues.
MacFixIt reader Jason Westlake writes:
"I've been getting terribly, terribly slow speeds here at work on our 100 Mbit connection. For example, I'm trying to copy a folder from our Xserve (which is on gigabit backbone) to my desktop on the MacBook Pro... Finder's current estimate on the copy is ~200 hours!
"Another example of the problem is connecting to the server. When I Go > Connect to Server and connect to the server, it sits on 'Looking up (hostname)' for several seconds. Then, when I click Connect after entering my login info, it sits on 'Authenticating...' for a long time before even bringing up the server.
"Wireless isn't much better. I was dropped off our office wireless no less than 7 times in the span of 1.5 hrs. Sending emails via Entourage 2004 was painful... sometimes, they wouldn't send due to 'the connection to the server was dropped' errors."
