MacBook Pro Special Report: Printer issues: Not recognized, more
AppleTalk printers not showing up over AirPort An issue reported by a number of users that we have also experienced in-house involves the MacBook Pro not being able to see AppleTalk printers that are located on the local AirPort (or other wireless) network.
Several users have been able to workaround this issue by using IP printing instead of AppleTalk.
MacFixIt reader David Syzdek reports:
"Both MacBook Pros couldn't print to an Appletalk only Laserwriter Pro 630 over an Airport Express Unit acting as a bridge. The Print Center sees the printer but I cannot print. The Mac Genius who helped with the computer exchange said that they don?t support legacy equipment like the LaserWriter Pro. "
As noted by several readers, connecting a printer via a wired connection usually results in ability to print.
MacFixIt reader Val writes:
"I too am experiencing problems with Mac Book Pro using airport and printers on the apple talk network. Plugging an Ethernet cable into the Mac Book works fine. But using the Airport doesn't. The print center sees the printers and sets them up and even sends the document but their it sets in the queue going nowhere, tried to print to HP 4000 and 5000, Canon fiery, Xante all work on the Ethernet and none work on the Airport."
