FileMaker Pro 8.0v3 (#2): Problems with installation

by CNET staff

Some users are reporting issues with installing the recently released FileMaker Pro 8.0v3 update.

MacFixIt reader Tim Mansour writes:

"I've just tried to install the FileMaker Server 8.0v3 patch, following their usual instructions. It just hangs at the point where it says 'searching volume...'. As per the usual FileMaker update instructions, it does mention in the read-me that the install can take several minutes if there are network volumes attached (there weren't). And I left it to run overnight with no results (Aside: Given that the server is installed in /Library/FileMaker Server/ what on earth is it searching for anyway?)

"The install machine is an Xserve G5 running OS X Server 10.4.6 and has 2 drives in a mirrored RAID config.

"I'm referring here to the FileMaker Server patch, not the web component patch (aka Advanced) which I did install successfully on a second Xserve."

I don't have any personal experience with the Server 8.0v3 updater yet, but I had
the very same issue with the Server 7.0v2 updater. To resolve it with 7.0v2, we
had to completely uninstall Server 7.0v1 (using the installer's uninstall feature),
and then re-install Server 7.0v1 from scratch. Only THEN could we apply the
7.0v2 updater. Try that to see if it works.

Installed it this morning, no problems. However, I installed the updates (8.0.2 and 8.0.3) while booted in safe mode; the .2 first, then booted and verified the server was reachable; then after another safe boot, the .3 update.
Just wanted to be doubly sure that the FM daemons were not running during the update. So far, so good.
