Security Update 2006-003 Special Report: UnRarX causing freezes

by CNET staff

In addition to the indefinite startup stalls, some applications can cause repeatable freezes on systems that have Security Update 2006-003 installed.

One of those is UnRarX, a utility for unarchiving RAR files.

A MacFixIt reader writes:

"UnRarX causes a repeatable freeze every time i try to unarchive. Just opening the program is ok, by when i begin unarchiving it borks the system."

If you need to expand RAR files, StuffIt Expander can also perform the task and doesn't appear to succumb to the same freezing issues as UnRarX.
