Tip: Reducing Automatic AirPort network join time
When waking your system from sleep, you may notice that it takes an abnormally long time to re-connect to wireless networks set for automatic joining.
You can easily shave a few seconds off this time (in some cases) by simply deleting extraneous networks from the Preferred networks list, via the following process:
- Open System Preferences
- Go to the "Network' pane
- Select "AirPort" from the "Show:" menu
- Click on the "AirPort" tab
- Select "Preferred networks" from the "By default, join:" menu
- Delete any networks from the list (using the "-" button) that you do not regularly use
- Click the "Apply Now" button
Note that deleting networks you do regularly join then re-establishing them on the list can also help with an issue where systems do not automatically re-join the default AirPort network when waking from sleep.
