New and Noteworthy: Apple launches new Mac recycling program; Booting Windows: A trojan horse that will help Mac sales

by CNET staff

Apple launches new Mac recycling program VNUNet reports that Apple has launched a computer recycling program which offers US customers an environmentally friendly way of disposing of their old computer when they buy a new Mac.  "The firm said that its online and shop-based retail outlets will offer customers the option of recycling their unwanted PCs, regardless of the manufacturer. If a customer chooses to participate in the program, Apple will send an email with instructions and a label for free shipping and recycling. Customers simply package their old equipment and attach the label provided." More.

Booting Windows: A trojan horse that will help Mac sales The Age speculates that the ability to boot Windows on Intel-based Mac systems represents a trojan horse (not the malicious kind) of sorts that will boost Mac sales. "One hesitates to mention Trojan horses around Windows users, for the name has come to describe malicious software that looks innocent but is hideously dangerous, to which Windows is prone. But we are tempted to see Boot Camp, which allows Windows XP to run on the new Intel Macs, as a clever marketing Trojan horse that will boost sales of Macintosh computers. Games-playing performance is a kind of hidden tick box on the spec sheets of even quite large corporate buyers and, until now, that has gone against the Mac." More.
