Apple acknowledges MacBook (13", White) palmrest discoloration as support issue

by CNET staff

We've extensively reported on an issue where the MacBook's case become discolored around the palmrest area and other spots (usually with an orange/brown/yellow color). It appears that this issue is caused by a chemical reaction in the plastic with skin oils.

We also noted several solutions for protecting MacBooks from the stains as well as cleaning them.

Though Apple made previous statements to the press acknowledging this issue, the company has now officially posted a support document indicating that users noticing discoloration should contact AppleCare for service.

For more coverage, see our MacBook (13") special report.

Seriously? We've now browbeaten our favorite company into acknowledging that
the WHITE plastic laptop computers we purchase from them GET DIRTY and this
    is somehow their fault? LOL

Three of the keyboards I bought over the last 15 years have filled with dust and
cookie crumbs, is this a defect?

Seriously. This is a manufacturing defect, and not simply 'dirty' computers.
There appears to be a chemical reaction between skin oils/body chemistry and
these plastics. It isn't something that can be cleaned, and typically occurs in
under a month of use. The complaints originated from users in clean
    environments, not garage mechanics.

Your dirty keyboards don't fall into this category. Do a search, and find out for
    yourself.

There some people that washes their hand before they handle their MacBook and this discoloration occurs and this is the issue that some experienced. BTW if you have seen the new keyboard there is very lile space for your crumbs and junk to drop into since the spaces between the keys now are filled with the top case. Unless you like my manager which dumped an drink into his keyboard, this will most like keep most crud out of the key mechanism.

I find it offensive by some who laugh at other users misfortune.
