Wireless Mighty Mouse (#2): Sluggish movement; more
Sluggish movement Several users are reporting sluggish tracking speed from the new Wireless (Bluetooth) Mighty Mouse.
One poster to Apple's Discussion boards, corranroh, writes:
"My bluetooth mighty mouse pairs with my MacBook but the cursor barely moves, tons of lag on slowest and fastest settings - clearly a problem. the problem also exists on the Windows XP side of the MacBook - very strange."
As noted by the above poster, users note that the sluggish movement occurs even with the highest tracking speed settings (modifiable in the Keyboard & Mouse pane of System Preferences).
Users experiencing this issue may want to try an alternative mouse driver. Options include:

Setting up the Wireless Mighty Mouse to work with Boot Camp In order to get the Wireless Mighty Mouse to work with Windows XP running under Boot Camp, you must first turn on Bluetooth, then go to the Windows XP Control Panel and select "Bluetooth Devices." Click "Add..." then the option that reads "My device is setup and ready to be found," then the "Next" button.

the zoom feature is handy when sharpening photos, doing graphic work etc. I
did notice one very strange behavior. I paired the mouse before installing the
software, I had the USB mighty mouse software already.
After pairing, my system prefs returned to the old ( single button) mouse
settings. The WMM worked great , tracked fast, was able to use right click,
but no other options.
After I installed the software that came with WMM, the tracking slowed down
to a crawl, but all 4 button options were back. Yes, I reset the system prefs
for the WMM to fastest, but it's still A LOT slower than before I installed the
software. Don't get me wrong here, the new WMM works, just doesn't track as
fast as it did with out installing the software. I can do without the 4 button
option, simple left, right, fast tracking would be better for me.
I installed MouseZoom and got back tracking speed, but with the price of a
new WMM, IMHO it's unacceptable for it not to work properly.
WMM. I've emailed them but not heard anything back.
I've never had any sluggishness from my single button Apple BT mouse. That's the only BT mouse that's worked 100% as advertised for me. I guess I'm just lucky with my current Apple mouse. Combined with OneFingerSnap, my single button mouse is pretty functional for controlling my Home Theater MacMini.
G4, with D-Link DPT-120 adaptor, and PowerBook G4 with built in Bluetooth.
Added no software to PowerBook, did install included software on Digital Audio
G4, don't know if it was really neccesary. Mouse only works with computer that
boots up first. Now I want two WMM's. JF
I have no problems with tracking speed as I already use USB Overdrive. I agree the mouse settings in System Prefs are too slow
My problem is that the RIGHT click is spasmodic ay best and requires a hefty tap rather than a gentle push as does the left click
I have reverted to my Logitech wireless optical mouse which works perfectly. I would like to use the Apple mouse but it is just too frustrating!

That's too bad about the mouse buttons. It sounds like they didn't change anything from the corded Mighty Mouse.
I can't imagine how a company as forward-thinking as Apple could possibly screw up anything as simple as mouse buttons... then repeat the mistake a year later.
If Apple would have fixed the buttons problem I'd be placing my order right now. Instead, I'll stick with my single button Apple BT mouse and my Radtech mouse.
Thanks for posting. You saved me an hour round trip to the Apple Store.

- I didn't have quite as much trouble with the sluggish movement on my 17" MacBook Pro, but it was still hard to adjust, even at highest speeds. USB Overdrive doesn't seem to be compatible on my system...I infer that others have had success? I used it with my corded Mighty Mouse with no problems.

(9 Comments)The limitations of Apple's software are SO ignorant of their users. We need to be able to remap the buttons to whatever we want. For instance, I mapped the outer buttons to the "enter" key and the scroll button to the "command-w" key with USB Overdrive and my corded Mighty Mouse. That makes me a lot faster in my work. We should have that option with the software.
SteerMouse gave me that option, but then it messed up my wireless Logitech S530 keyboard, reversing some of the mapping of the keys (command and option). And now the Logitech Control Center doesn't recognize the keyboard, since the installation of SteerMouse.
Goodness....interface design should be one of Apple's REALLY strong points! These limitations are disappointing and unexpected.
