Easy installation (no restart necessary). Web pages run by java load much
faster, especially the web site where I bank.

I installed the update on my PowerBook 1.67Ghz, and now my Airport
cannot connect. I tried to set up a new Location in System
Preferences>Network, but changes are not accepted. Obviously something is
hosed. I tried repairing permissions, no good. I'm still working on it.

I concur with the earlier poster. Java appears to load quicker and applets run
faster after the update. My gold standard for Java is my bank's canceled check
online display/print option. This is accomplished by a Java application called
Viewone which has been problematic in the past on my Mac. Since Tiger and
Safari 2.0.x things have worked perfectly. Now it's even faster. Kudos to Apple
for the good work on Java for the Mac.

If you've installed Java 1.5 and manually set 1.5 to be theCurrentVersion, you'll
have to set it manually again after the upgrade. from the terminal:

    cd /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions
    sudo rm CurrentJDK
    sudo ln -s 1.5.0 CurrentJDK

(note sudo and RM can erase your entire disk. don't monkey with this if you
    don't know what you're doing.)
