iTunes 5.0 Special Report: Disc burning issues: Drives not recognized, more

by CNET staff

Paul Ablett reports some issues burning CDs with iTunes 5.0:

"When burning a playlist, iTunes flashes 'checking media' but does not move forward. Workaround is to quit iTunes and relaunch with disc in. It then burns without 'checking media' mysterious..."

Other users report receiving the error message "Disc Burner or Software Not Found" when attempting to record media under iTunes 5.0.

Some users have had reported success using the utility PatchBurn, which allows otherwise unsupported burners to be used directly with iTunes, to restore drive compatibility with drives that worked with ITunes 4.9 natively but not iTunes 5.0.

If you are still finding that you cannot use a disc recording device that did work under a previous version of iTunes, you may want to consider reverting per the instructions contained in the "Reverting to a previous version of iTunes" section of this report.
