Apple has released iTunes 5.0.1, solving a number of major issues with the 5.0 release (see our special report, Troubleshooting iTunes 5.0).

Apple's release notes indicate only that the new version has "several stability improvements."

However, MacFixIt reader Ivan Trundle notes several defined fixes, and lingering issues:

  • No longer is 'Radio' required to be displayed in order to see shared music.
  • Random playlists are now truly random.
  • The iTunes window still does not take into account the Dock - and can be made impossible to resize without hiding the Dock. Yet Safari is intelligent enough to know to stay clear of the dock.
  • The 'Provide iTunes Feedback' in the File menu still takes you through to 'Request Music' rather than offering feedback.

The new release is available through Software Update or as a 13.8 MB standalone Web download.

Problems with the new release? Bugs fixed? Please let us know.
