iTunes 5.0.1 Special Report: Cannot burn MIDI files

One reader reports that he is no longer able to burn MIDI files after the update:

"With iTunes 4.9 I could burn a playlist containing MIDI files. They'd be automatically rendered to audio via the QuickTime synthesizer and voila! iTunes 5 and 5.0.1 claim there are no songs to burn if the playlist contains only MIDIs."

This may indicate a problem with the Mac OS X MIDIServer component, as some users are receiving the error message "Unable to launch MIDIServer" when attempting to use other audio applications.
