iPod nano Special Report: Cable connection may require more snug fit
Some iPod nanos require more pressure on cable insertion than other iPod models. In fact, some users have mistakenly taken their iPod nanos for non-functional, only to find that creating a snugger fit for the dock connector USB 2.0 cable results in proper synchronization.
MacFixIt reader Mark writes:
"In addition to what some of your readers are reporting, we've already noticed at least one instance of a misdiagnosed DOA relating to the cable not being completely connected into the bottom of a nano. In this case, we discovered that the connection is a lot more sensitive than the previous iPods. A customer waiting to see the Genius Bar thought his nano was DOA, having plugged his nano into various other cables without response. Upon further diagnostics, though, we found that the cable for the nano had to be pushed in further (to create a 'snug' connection) and it was completely responsive.
"Again, this is just a heads up, as we'd never encountered this with previous iPods. After pushing the cable in further (so the cable was flush with the bottom of the nano) the nano communicated with iTunes without fail. This little 'uniquely nano' thing had eluded another Mac Specialist as well as the owner of the nano (who had a collection of other iPods to his belt)."
