Apple releases Bluetooth Firmware Update for Mac OS X 10.4.3

by CNET staff

Apple has released the Bluetooth Firmware Update 1.2, which the company cryptically states "improves Bluetooth performance and reliability issues."

When the update package is downloaded, the Bluetooth Firmware Updater application will be launched. Follow the on screen directions to update your Bluetooth Firmware.

The Bluetooth Firmware Updater supports D-Link USB Adapters and Apple internal Bluetooth modules on the following CPUs:

  • iMac G4 (Gooseneck)
  • 12" Titanium PowerBook
  • 15" Titanium PowerBook
  • iMac G5
  • Mac Mini

The new release is available through Software Update or as a 1.5 MB standalone download.

There is some confusion over this release, as Apple already posted a Bluetooth Firmware Updater version 1.2 for Mac OS X 10.3.6 in late 2004.

If you are having any problems with Bluetooth Firmware Update 1.2 for Mac OS X 10.4.3, please let us know.

Launched this on my 15" titanium powerbook (400MHz, 1Gb ram, 10.4.3) with
D-Link DBT-120, and it told me the firmware didn't need updating. A little
puzzling, but I've heard it may only be needed for certain D-Link models?

I had the identical situation as Yoxi with a similar configuration ( I have a 800Mz
    Powerbook ).

Had the same results with a 2004 G5 Tower. I do have a DLink USB device connected.

Yes, I noticed the '12" Titanium" statement too, and the Apple support page says
the same thing. Attempting to apply the update on my 12" Aluminum PB gives
the message that "no update is needed".

It's either a typo, or the update is for a yet-to-be-announced PB.

This update showed up in my Software Update, though I have a 17" PowerBook. I
tried to let the installer do its thing and go away, but after "Preparing for
Update" and "Looking for Hardware to Update" it just goes idle. I have to restart
to get bluetooth up and running again. And then the update shows up again in
    Software Update!
